Client MariMed came to us with a serious challenge: Get media coverage for a new, limited-distribution soft-baked THC brownie from Bubby’s Baked during the height of the holiday season.

Our solution? Go big. REALLY big.

Trailblaze proposed a PR stunt unlike anything the world had ever seen: Bake an 850-pound, 3x3 foot, 20,000mg record-breaking pot brownie and commandeer an unexpected holiday: National Brownie Day.

WHAT WE DID

To craft the record-breaking brownie, MariMed’s confectioners used 1,344 eggs, 212 pounds of butter, 81 pounds of flour, and 20,000 mg of THC.

The result? An intoxicating 850-pound, 3’ x 3’ square super-sized Bubby’s Baked pot brownie.

On December 7, the day before National Brownie Day, we issued a press release with a stunning photo of the brownie surrounded by kitchen staff.

Trailblaze went to work pitching the story, and by that afternoon the brownie began gaining traction in the news and in social media conversations.

The record-breaking stunt was covered by every major news outlet, from the AP to NBC, and from TMZ to People, and achieved the ultimate late-night hat trick: Kimmel, Colbert, Meyers, and the holy grail —SNL.

Even Homeland Security got in on the fun, warning people not to “fly high” with a humorous TSA Instagram post.

Perhaps that’s why the American Business Awards named it PR Campaign of the Year—a trailblazing first for a cannabis brand.
